This book is about a married couple. The wife is pregnant and she goes into labor at the beginning of the book. She ends up having twins, a boy and a girl. The boy is completely healthy and normal but the girl has retardation issues. The father is a doctor and he’s seen so many children die because of being mentally retarded and having heart problems so he decides to not keep the baby girl and to send her to a home but he doesn’t tell his wife. He gets one of the nurses to take her to a home but the nurse ends up raising the girl. She never tells the father that she didn’t take Phoebe, the little girl, to a home.
This book is very dramatic so if you’re someone that doesn’t like drama, I wouldn’t recommend this book. It really is touching and the author does a great job of making you feel like you’re a part of the family’s life.
I read this book three or four summers ago while I was part of a book club that met in Kemah once a month. I loved it. Well written and a great story overall.
